O Poder da Arte no Sonho (III)

Quando a tuna tocava nos lugares públicos, existia uma grande preocupação de rigor; desde o modo como caminhavam até ao modo como atuavam. A Tuna Musical tornou‑se numa motivação perfeita de muitos jovens e adultos que a serviram com inteira dedicação e a ajudaram a escrever nas páginas da sua história belos acontecimentos e espetáculos musicais. Em terras portuguesas ou em terras estrangeiras, vi-a reverenciar com profunda satisfação; vi um alcaide espanhol deslumbrar-se ao escutá‑la; ficou tão entusiasmado que, em abraço, nos replicou: “Até à próxima, amigos; foram brilhantes! Gostei muito!...” Portanto, julgo que estes factos são reveladores das nossas capacidades e das nossas características; o empenhamento e a responsabilidade de fazer das obras as cestas do nosso alimento e da nossa vigilância. Por muito simples ou complexas, grandes ou pequenas que sejam, elas induzem-nos na sua descoberta e na sua afirmação; são, aliás, duas das realidades que ajudam a completar a nossa compreensão em relação ao significado que tem o servir os outros através das associações e através da gratidão voluntária; são, aliás, as respostas mais concretas para a explicação do nosso sentimento de felicidade, pelo dever cumprido; pois a maioria das vezes, em final de carreira, cada um exclamando para si: “Trabalhei muito, sofri dissabores, não faz mal, estou feliz!...”
Seja esta meditação sobre o poder da arte no sonho, mas também na vida, uma meditação serena e sem revanchismos de nenhuma espécie nem ensombramentos de nenhum lugar. Só assim se pode entender o porquê da solenidade dos atos e a simplicidade das partes que os compõem. Por mim e pela minha sensibilidade, tudo estou a fazer para que o que escrevo seja o testemunho da minha admiração.
A Música tem também esta particularidade: servir o Homem na mudança de humor e sentido de interpretação da vida; facilitar-lhe o caminho para que a nossa caminhada não seja interrompida pelo desânimo e pela fraqueza. Tocam os tambores, gritam os cornetins, tangem-se os pratos, e o alvoroço é imediato; o povo acorre às praças, e as marchas levam-nos até ao fim dos nossos destinos.
E bem necessitamos desta agitação e pressa para mudarmos o nosso humor para uma autenticidade real; para uma autenticidade que faça de novo despertar a vida para novos compromissos sociais; para novos esforços para pôr em marcha os nossos ideais de recreio, desporto e cultura. Já todos nos apercebemos que é do diálogo que nos alimentamos para a descoberta do que são os outros e do que somos nós; já todos nos demos conta de que a nossa casa é um lugar especial, mas ao menos de vez em quando, podemos partilhar com os outros os nossos gostos e os nossos desejos; sermos amigos e vivermos a amizade na prática e pela reunião! É esse o sentido que voluntariamente devemos seguir; sentir necessidade de nos reunirmos, sem outro interesse que não seja o interesse humano no gregarismo da vida. É esse o significado das obras e do pensamento dos homens que as criam e dos que as mantêm com o mesmo espírito; pelo perpetuar no tempo a responsabilidade do seu significado para com as comunidades em geral, mas, de modo particular, para com os povos, que lhe dão vida e são parte integrante dos seus sucessos e dos seus fracassos.

When the musical group played in public places, there was a big concern of rigorousness; from the way they walked to the way they acted. The Musical Group became a perfect motivation of many young people and adults who served it with full dedication and helped it to write on the pages of its history beautiful events and musical shows. In Portuguese lands or in foreign lands, I saw it revere with profound satisfaction; I saw a Spanish alcayde get dazzled while listening to it; he got so excited that, in a hug, he replied to us: “See you next time, my friends; you were brilliant! I liked a lot!...” So, I think these facts are revealing of our abilities and our characteristics; the determination and the responsibility of making of the opuses the basket of our food and of our surveillance. No matter how simple or complex, big or small they might be, they induce us to their discovery and to their affirmation; they are, furthermore, two realities that help to complete our understanding in relation to the meaning that has the serving to the others through associations and through the voluntary gratitude; they are, furthermore, the most concrete answers to the explanation of our feeling of happiness, for our fulfilled duty; since, most often, at the end of career, each one exclaiming to oneself: “I worked a lot, I suffered annoyances, but it is alright, I am happy!...”
Be this meditation about the power of the art in the dream, but also in life, a serene meditation and without revanchisms of any kind and without gloomings of any place. Only that way one can understand the reason of the solemnity of the acts and the simplicity of the parts that compound them. By myself and by my sensibility, I am doing all I can so that what I write is the testimony of my admiration.
Music also has this particularity: to serve Man in the change of humor and sense of interpretation of life; to facilitate the path so that our tramp is not interrupted by discouragement and by weakness. Drums are beaten, trumpets scream, cymbals are played, and enthusiasm is immediate; people come in haste to the squares, and marches carry us to the end of our destinations.
And we really need this agitation and hurry to change our humor to a real authenticity; to an authenticity that makes again life awaken to new social compromises; to new efforts to set in motion our ideals of recreation, sports and culture. We have already noticed that it is from dialog we feed ourselves to the discovery of what the others and of what we are; we have already become aware that our home is a special place, but at least sometimes, we may share with others our likings and our wishes; be friends and live friendship in practice and by meeting! It is that the sense we should voluntarily follow; to feel need of coming together, without other interest than the human interest in the gregariousness of life. It is that the meaning of the works and of the thoughts of men who create them, and of those who maintain them with the same spirit; by perpetuating in time the responsibility of their meaning to the communities in general, but in a particular way to the peoples, who give them life and are an integrant part of their successes and of their failures.
