Laços de Ternura
Deixa-me agora tratar-te simplesmente por tu;
é assim, neste amor, que também os teus netos me tratam!
Não será pior, penso eu, que também amarás como se fosses tu...
Nós somos os mesmos; o tempo e as circunstâncias é que datam!...
Sabes? Passeando até ao lugar das nossas raízes,
vi um sonho que escorria para a terra.
Vi os rios, os vinhedos, as oliveiras e algumas serras,
e, em silêncio, recordei os nossos dias felizes.
Entretanto, naquele lugar, entre o amor e a alegria,
olhando a observar as pessoas, vi-as também numa correria!
De repente, uma música enterneceu-me e levantou um véu!
Mas num instante, recobrei as forças e também a paz!
E a contemplar a extensão do Vale, pareceu-me ouvir-te a dizer: “É o meu rapaz!”
Sim, demorei muito tempo, mas não foi fácil fazer isto de seu como tu:
pôr na cabeça um chapéu, passar a ser eu também a lembrar-me em seres tu.

Bonds of Terderness
Let me now just treat you by “you”;
it is like that, in this love, that your grandchildren also treat me!
It will not be worse, I think, that you may also love as if were you...
We are the same; it is the time and circumstances that date!...
You know? Strolling to the place of our roots,
I saw a dream that was dripping to earth.
I saw the rivers, the large vineyards, the olive-trees and some mountains,
and, in silence, I remembered our happy days.
Meanwhile, in that place, between love and joy,
looking to observe the people, I also saw them in a hurry!
Suddenly, a music touched me and lifted a veil!
But, in an instant, I recovered my strengths and also peace!
And contemplating the Valley extension, it seemed to me to have heard you saying: “It’s my boy!”
Yes, I took very long, but it was not easy to do this of his like you:
to put a hat on the head, to start being me also remembering of being you.
